Sweater Weather Weekends: November Trips for the Soul.
Welcome back to the Travel Edit. This week, we’ll be covering some awesome weekend trip options for November. November might not scream "weekend getaway" due to the cooler weather and limited activities in off season; but for study abroad students, it’s actually one of the best times to explore Europe. The crowds have thinned, flights are cheaper, and cities are starting to slip into that cozy, pre-holiday glow. Here's where to go—and why now is the time to go.
November Weekend Trip Recommendations
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Visiting Amsterdam in November offers a peaceful charm, with fewer tourists and the city wrapped in autumn hues. The cool weather is perfect for exploring the city’s world-class museums, like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, or taking a cozy canal cruise as the fall colors reflect on the water. The Vondelpark and tree-lined streets offer quiet strolls, and the café culture is in full swing, ideal for warming up with a coffee or Dutch apple pie. You can also find some more unique experiences, such as a stroll down the Red Light District or having a few drinks at the iconic Ice Bar.
Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon in November offers mild weather, making it an ideal time to explore the city without the summer crowds. The historic neighborhoods of Alfama and Baixa are perfect for leisurely walks, with colorful street art and tiled facades providing plenty of photo opportunities. We also did a day trip to Sintra, which is a short train ride away and offers many different castles to tour. We explored the Queen’s Regalia, and really enjoyed it. I’d also recommend heading up to Castelo de São Jorge, where you’ll learn a bit more history, as well as catch some cool views of the city.
Seville, Spain
Seville is an ideal November weekend escape—still warm, super walkable, and way less crowded than in summer. You can wander through the stunning Alcázar, relax in the Plaza de España, and snack on tapas without waiting in lines or melting in the heat. The city feels laid-back but full of life, with flamenco music spilling into the streets and the golden fall light making everything feel extra dreamy. It’s the perfect mix of culture, sunshine, and chill vibes before winter really kicks in.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen in November has a cozy, pleasant atmosphere, with cool temperatures and early sunsets that invite you to seek warmth in its charming cafés and taverns. The city's streets are adorned with festive lights as the holiday season approaches, and places like Nyhavn and Tivoli Gardens start to glow with seasonal cheer. It’s a great time to explore the city's iconic sights, like The Little Mermaid or Christiansborg Palace, without the summer or Christmas Time crowds. Many holiday markets may even begin to open towards the end of the month.
Happy Travels!
You’re now well equipped to explore Europe in the quiet month of November! While many overlook this month, it’s still an incredible time to travel, and you can make some wonderful memories if you know what you’re doing. Happy travels, and we’ll see you next week for December!!
