When Life Doesn't Quite Fit

Welcome back — I'm so happy you're here.

I hope your week is going well. But today, I want to talk about those not so good weeks. We all have them, of course. The question is: how do we consciously create a life where the better weeks outweigh the harder ones? If you find yourself facing dreadful week after dreadful week, that may be your body and mind signaling that something needs to change.

The tricky part is that this shift toward struggle is often subtle. In my own experience, I didn't notice each small step I was taking away from a life that fit me. None of us set out to make choices that are painful or disruptive — it's the unintentional steps, the little compromises logic overlooks, that accumulate quietly. Eventually, intuition speaks up and whispers that something isn't right, even if you can't put your finger on it. The longer you ignore that, the worse you'll feel. But once you begin listening to your body and intentionally seeking what makes you feel good, the difference can be transformative.

It's not realistic to expect to uproot your entire life overnight. What is possible is noticing the subtle indicators that something may not be serving you and taking care of them. Recognizing these signs early can help you avoid burnout, live in closer alignment with your values, and protect your overall well being. Think of it as a pulse check — a gentle way to see how your life is fitting you.

Signs Something Isn't Quite Right

Check Your Body

Notice how your body feels. Are you clenching your jaw? Are your shoulders hunched and tight, your chest closed off? Does your stomach feel knotted or twisted? Do headaches keep showing up? These can all be signs that your body is in fight-or-flight mode. When this happens, your muscles brace for protection, your posture curls inward, and blood flow redirects toward survival — which explains the physical discomfort. It's not silly; it's a primal response to perceived danger, whether the threat is real or emotional.

Constant Fatigue

No matter how much you rest, you still feel drained. This often means your nervous system is stuck in "on" mode, burning energy constantly. Cortisol, the stress hormone, also disrupts sleep cycles. So even if you're getting hours of rest, your body may not be sinking into the deep, restorative stages it needs. The result: exhaustion, heaviness, and a sense that you're running on empty.

Disconnection

Stress can leave you feeling foggy, detached, or even numb. Short-term memory suffers, so you might forget names, dates, or details more often than usual. You may drift through conversations on autopilot or feel like you're observing life rather than living it. Numbness doesn't mean you're not feeling anything — it usually means you're feeling too much at once, and your system shuts down to cope. While protective, this can make life feel muted and disconnected.

Idealizing a Future Alternative

Do you find yourself daydreaming about a different future — a new job, a different city, a new relationship — yet never taking steps toward it because "it's not the right time"? While dreaming itself is healthy, constantly escaping into an imagined reality can become a form of distraction and procrastination. It delays meaningful change in the present and keeps you stuck in dissatisfaction.

A Gentle Reminder

These feelings are normal and often subtle. But when they build up, they can shape your life in ways that weigh you down. That's why I want to name them — to invite them into the conversation — so we can notice them sooner and listen to what they're telling us.

The best time to realign is always now. Change doesn't have to be dramatic or overnight, but it does need to happen step by step. Cultivate a life that serves you, and release what doesn't. The real world isn't sunshine and rainbows every day — hard times are inevitable. But we can choose to create conditions where we feel more aligned, more present, and more like ourselves.

At the end of the day, we're all just little kids playing in a big, beautiful world.
