My First Pop-Up at Remedee Coffee.

My First Pop-Up at Remedee Coffee

This past weekend, I had my first pop-up event for Knead Faith at a new coffee shop in Ventnor, New Jersey called Remedee. I was very nervous going into it. I had no idea what to expect. I am someone who always likes to be prepared, so not knowing how many people would come or what they would order really stressed me out.

I have never been the most confident person. Even when I played college soccer, I was the type who over-prepared for everything. So naturally, I was scared no one would show up. I asked my friends and family to come, partly because I wanted them there, and partly just in case no one else bought the bread.

That week, I was still in school, so I did not get to Margate until Thursday night. As soon as I got to my beach house, I started mixing dough. More dough than I have ever made. Two full buckets. About 150 pounds of flour and a whole lot of water. On Friday, I spent two hours shaping the loaves and got to start baking that night.

I baked as much as I could Friday night, then woke up early to finish more loaves Saturday morning. I really wanted to enjoy the weekend too, so I spent a little time on the beach that afternoon. Then I got right back to baking Saturday night. After that, I went out with my friends for a little. I am serious about sourdough, but I am also not going to let it take over my life or school.

I ended up getting only a few hours of sleep, but I showed up Sunday morning to Remedee ready to go. And somehow, in just about an hour, every single loaf sold out. I still cannot believe it.

I learned so much from that morning. I learned I need better systems to stay organized. I need more change and more cash. I learned people want their loaves sliced in half. I learned that showing up with a plan and a few Sharpies makes a big difference.

Now I am already planning my next two pop-ups and I truly cannot wait. I am excited to keep growing, keep baking, and keep learning.

I will be honest, it still does not feel as rewarding as putting on my cleats and pouring my heart onto a soccer field, but it fills that hole in my heart just a little bit.

Xoxo,

Knead Faith
