More Than Just Bread and Butter.

Sourdough is way more versatile than people give it credit for. I’ve got sweet flavors, savory flavors, and everything in between. The best way to put in an order is honestly to get at least one sweet and one savory loaf. Some fan favorites include rosemary cheddar, everything but the bagel seasoning, feta olive, blueberry lemon, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate chip.

And while it’s hard to beat a slice with just butter, here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy sourdough in meals throughout the day.

Breakfast Ideas:

Cottage Cheese Avocado Toast

The breakfast I could eat every day forever.

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice of any savory sourdough (rosemary, feta olive, or everything but the bagel are great)

  • Cottage cheese (whipped or Good Culture brand)

  • Half an avocado, smashed

  • 1 over-easy egg

  • Flaky sea salt

Toast the bread. Spread with cottage cheese, then avocado. Add your egg on top and finish with flaky salt.

Blueberry Lemon French Toast

Perfect for slow mornings or a weekend brunch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of blueberry lemon sourdough

  • 1 egg

  • ¼ cup milk

  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

  • Butter or oil for the pan

Whisk the egg, milk, and sugar. Dip each slice in the mix and cook in a buttered pan until golden brown. Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fruit.

Ricotta and Jam Toast

Sweet and creamy with a little zing.

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice of sourdough

  • Ricotta cheese

  • Lemon juice

  • Salt and pepper

  • Honey

  • Jam of choice

Whip ricotta with a squeeze of lemon, a pinch of salt and pepper, and a drizzle of honey. Spread over toasted sourdough and top with your favorite jam.

Sourdough Pizza

One of my favorite ways to use up plain sourdough.

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice of plain sourdough

  • Red sauce

  • Whipped cottage cheese or shredded mozzarella

  • Flaky sea salt

Lightly toast the bread. Spread sauce, add cheese, then broil until melty. Finish with salt or any toppings.

Cottage Cheese Tomato Toast

Simple and always hits.

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice of any sourdough flavor

  • Cottage cheese

  • Fresh sliced tomatoes

  • Everything but the bagel seasoning

Toast your slice. Spread with cottage cheese, top with tomato slices, and sprinkle seasoning on top.

Lunch or Dinner Ideas:

Roasted Veggies and Chicken Sandwich

A good go-to for meal prep days.

Ingredients:

  • Grilled chicken breast

  • Roasted or grilled veggies (zucchini, peppers, onions, or whatever you like) tossed in balsamic

  • Honey mustard

  • 2 slices of sourdough

Toast the bread. Spread honey mustard on both sides, layer chicken and veggies, and press together. Optional to grill it panini-style.

Sourdough Burger

Works perfectly with rosemary cheddar.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices rosemary cheddar sourdough

  • Grass fed beef patty

  • Sharp cheddar cheese

  • Mustard, salt, and pepper

Season the patty with salt, pepper, and a bit of mustard. Cook to your liking. Toast sourdough, melt cheese on the burger, and stack it all up.

Butter Toast

You can never go wrong.

Ingredients:

  • 1 slice of any sourdough

  • Kerrygold butter

Toast it. Spread the butter. That’s it.
